WHAT THERAPY CAN LOOK LIKE
JOURNEYS TOWARDS FREEDOM
Perhaps you already understand your problem rather well.
You know you're overthinking. You know the situation probably isn't as dangerous as it feels. You may even know exactly where some of your patterns came from.
And yet knowing hasn't changed them.
This is often where our work begins.
Our Journey Together
1. Understand
Why does my mind keep doing this when I know better?
We begin by making sense of what's happening — in your thoughts, your emotions, your body and your nervous system.
And yet knowing hasn't necessarily changed how you feel.
Anxiety and other difficult patterns usually aren't random. Somewhere along the way, your brain learned that this response was useful.
Understanding why is often the first relief.
Depending on what you need, I may draw on CBT, psychology and neuroscience, alongside calming and hypnotic techniques that help your nervous system become less reactive.
We don't begin by fighting the problem. We begin by understanding it.
2. Change
What if I don't have to keep fighting myself?
This is often where therapy becomes particularly interesting.
Sometimes we discover that the anxiety, avoidance, self-criticism or other response you've been trying so hard to get rid of has actually been attempting to protect you.
Instead of pushing it away, we become curious.
What is it trying to prevent?
What does it want for you?
What would become possible if it no longer needed to work quite so hard?
Depending on you and the problem we're working with, I may use therapeutic hypnosis, ACT and carefully selected experiential or parts-informed methods alongside CBT.
Sometimes change develops gradually.
And sometimes something shifts surprisingly quickly — and the new response feels strangely natural, as though you aren't having to work so hard against yourself anymore.
The aim isn't to become somebody else. It's to have more freedom to be yourself.
3. Grow
Letting change become part of the way you live.
Real change becomes visible in everyday life.
You might say no without spending the evening feeling guilty. Walk past something you once avoided. Notice an anxious thought without automatically following it. Make a decision without asking five people whether it's the right one. Or realise one day that something which used to occupy your mind simply... doesn't anymore.
This is where ACT, behavioural experiments, practical psychological skills and, where useful, self-hypnosis can help new responses become part of ordinary life.
And we prepare for the fact that difficult days will still happen. Freedom doesn't mean never feeling anxious, uncertain or afraid again.
It means those feelings no longer have to decide how you live.
That's the kind of change I'm interested in.
Every Journey Is Different
Therapy with me is responsive to you. Sometimes we need to understand. Sometimes we need to help the nervous system settle enough for something new to become possible. Sometimes change comes through seeing an old pattern differently — and sometimes something shifts surprisingly quickly.
My work integrates evidence-based psychological approaches, including CBT and ACT, with therapeutic hypnosis and carefully selected experiential methods.
